East Central Community Theater announces fall musical

August 4, 2017

“All Shook Up” has been selected for East Central School and surrounding communities’ fall musical production. Inspired by and featuring more than 20 hits of Elvis Presley, it’s 1955! Into a square little town in a square little state rides a guitar-playing young man who “shakes up” everything and everyone he meets in this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy that’ll have audiences “jumpin’ out of their blue suede shoes” with such classics as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “One Night with You,” “Hound Dog,” “Teddy Bear,” “Love Me Tender,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” “Devil in Disguise,” “Burning Love,” etc.

Although this classic musical production features the rockin’ music of Elvis, it is not his story. The plot is loosely based on Shakespeare’s hilarious comedy “Twelfth Night.” The production will be presented in November. Watch your local newspaper for information concerning auditions.

Everyone from seventh grade to 100 years old, from the surrounding area, is eligible and encouraged to audition for “All Shook Up.” One of the many strengths of the show, besides the fabulous music, is the cast requirements. There is a wide array of wonderful character types for both students and adults--a gas station owner, a female grease monkey, a roustabout, owner of a honky-tonk and her daughter, a nerd, a museum curator, a female mayor and her son, a bus driver, a sheriff, prisoners, a warden, teen and adult townsfolk, singing/dancing statues, angelettes, devilettes, bar flies, shoe shop customers, etc.

There are numerous opportunities for talented actors, singers, dancers, and musicians. In addition to stage performers, the production will require orchestra members, scenery builders and painters, costumers, special effects designers and technicians, etc.

“All Shook Up” is a toe-tapping musical filled with laughter, excitement, and dancing. The directors are pleased to announce that once again we are fortunate that professional choreographer Gary Sassenberg will choreograph the production. Look forward to creative and amazing dancing.

“All Shook Up” is directed by Kathy Ebnet, with vocal direction by Jamie Stone and instrumental direction by Dan Kolker. For more information contact Kathy Ebnet at 320-630-3657 or Jamie Stone at 651-295-4594. Spread the word! Come join the fun! “C’mon Everybody” don’t miss out on being a part of this rockin’ entertainment.

Audutions will be held Tuesday, September 5 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Wednesday September 6 from 4 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the East Central High School Theater. Audition packets will be available soon.
