City council decides not to send NLX support letter

January 26, 2018

A final decision was made at January’s regular city council meeting regarding sending a letter in support of the NLX.

Last month at Hinckley’s regular city council meeting, city administrator Kyle Morell shared Bob Manzoline’s request for the city to draft a letter in support of the Northern Lights Express (NLX) railroad line. Manzoline is the executive director of the Minneapolis-Duluth/Superior Passenger Rail Alliance. Such a letter would be sent to Governor Mark Dayton in support for state bond funding and U. S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao. Manzoline offered to come speak to the council as well.

That discussion was tabled in December. At the latest meeting, council member decided to not respond to the request, both in regards to the letter and Manzoline’s offer to come and speak with the council.

Correction: In the December 28, 2017 edition of the Hinckley News (January 3 online date), it was reported in the 'NLX seeks city support' article that "Mayor Don Zeman said the letter would be sent to Governor Mark Dayton in support for state bond funding." This paraphrased quote was misattributed and for clarity's sake should have read, "City administrator Kyle Morell said if the council were to draft such a letter, it would be sent to Governor Mark Dayton in support for state bond funding." The Hinckley News apologizes for any confusion this may have caused.
