Brandon Kellerman, senior project manager with ICS consulting, presented the Hinckley-Finlayson School Board with updates on the facilities project. At April’s regular school board meeting, Kellerman told the board even though they were a little behind the initial schedule, they are still on pace to get the project out for bids in May and start construction on the additions in September.
Some projects such as roofing, the HVAC project, piping updates at Hinckley Elementary and some updates at HFHS will be done over the summer..
Some of the recent changes to the plan include updating the bus drop-off lane at Finlayson Elementary from two-way to one-way. Kellerman said there would be 34 parking spaces. Currently there are 20-30, including those in the drop-off loop. The buses would be able to park right next to the school when picking up or dropping off kids. During programs and events, people would still be able to park in that area.
The board accepted a bid for roofing from the McDowell Company based out of St. Cloud, Minn. Their bid was the lowest at $1,895,970, including a $82,730 deduction to push some of the work back to the summer of 2019. As of right now, the roofing project is $20,000 under budget. This bid includes all the roofing that will need to be done on the new additions and a 20-year warranty.
Joe France, head of maintenance at Hinckley-Finlayson, also updated the board on the projects he is working on. The new kitchen floor for Hinckley Elementary is in and ready to be installed once school is out. France told the board they expect to find some plumbing problems when they tear up the old tile. The current plumbing has been in place since 1956. Repairing or replacing this plumbing was included in the budget for the project.
